BGEA supported a Department of Transport study in 2022 into rail freight demand from our Region. This looked at existing use, as well as predicted future demand.

Following this, BGEA has been working with the Intermodal Group and Shire of Dardanup on a design for an intermodal terminal at Waterloo. An intermodal facility allows containerised freight to be moved from truck to rail (and vice versa). This increases freight efficiency, reduces costs and reduces truck traffic from our roads.

These facilities are often the catalyst for a range of other facilities to co-locate, such as warehousing and logistics hubs, manufacturing and container maintenance and cleaning.

BGEA will continue to work with industry and the Department of Transport to deliver this project.
