BGEA welcomes the announcement today from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) to commence the stakeholder consultation process for an offshore wind zone off the Bunbury Geographe coast.
BGEA has been working with State and Federal Government Agencies, a number of offshore proponents, the Bunbury Port as well as a number of our regional industries and local education providers to ensure that our Region is well positioned to capitalise on the future opportunities of this massive new industry.
BGEA has also been working with stakeholders to ensure that consistent and scientifically verified information will be made available to the public on potential key impacts.
Offshore wind is seen as a critical component of the Regions decarbonisation journey with large generation capacity achievable in relatively close proximity to the main SWIS distribution network.
Further information on the consultation phase, the proposed offshore wind zone and the various approval stages can be found on the DCCEEW website.
